Dr. Brendan Balcerak Jackson

Brendan Balcerak Jackson joined the MLAI group in 2024 as Managing Director of the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Bonn.

He earned a PhD in analytic philosophy, with a focus on theoretical linguistics, from Cornell University (New York, USA). He worked for several years as a researcher and teacher in philosophy, linguistics, and logic at universities in the United States, Australia, and Germany, where he worked on topics ranging from natural language semantics and pragmatics to language comprehension and reasoning. He is also an experienced scientific project manager, having managed interdisciplinary research projects and networks in the humanities and cognitive science, as well as in AI, robotics, and human-machine interaction.
