Projects
Kompetenzzentrum Maschinelles Lernen Rhein Ruhr (ML2R)
The Competence Center Machine Learning Rhine-Ruhr is one of four national nodes for bringing the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Germany to a worldwide leading level. To this end, we establish cutting-edge research, support young scientists and strengthen technology transfer in companies.
Together with our partners at Technical University of Dortmund, Frainhofer IAIS, and Fraunhofer IML we investigate three main areas of research:
- Human-oriented Machine Learning
- Machine Learning with Restricted Resources
- Machine Learning with Complex Knowledge
Projektgekoppelter, Potentialorientierter und Praxisintegrierter Erwerb von ML Engineering Wissen (P3ML)
The P3ML project aims at extending existing courses taught at our university by practical exercises. These exercises particularly focus on engineering aspects of machine learning. These aspects are often neglected in theory-focused lectures and seminars.
An additional goal of the project is to create teaching materials (slides, programming examples, videos) which cover the theory and are available freely on the internet. These materials shall be published under a liberal Creative Commons license to allow reuse by lecturers of other universities.
Project P3ML is funded by the Ministry of Education and Research of Germany (BMBF) under grant number 01/S17064.
Robotics and Phenotyping for Sustainable Crop Production (PhenoRob)
Our group participates in the cluster of excellence Phenorob. Prof. Stefan Wrobel is a principal investigator, Prof. Christian Bauckhage is an associate member. Within the cluster, our group focuses on data analysis and machine learning, together with the groups of Prof. Behnke, and Prof. Gall.
